Just as heat can destroy coatings, so can light. Ultraviolet light, the same type that causes sunburn, can initiate chemical reactions in polymers which result in their breakdown and loss of chemical and physical properties. Consequently, polymers used outdoors frequently require UV protection. We often classify the types of light stabilisers we make as either ultraviolet light absorbers (UVAs) or hindered amine (or amide) light stabilisers.

Often hindered amines and light absorbers are used together to provide a level of stability which is higher than what would be provided by using either type of stabiliser by itself. Such combinations are effectively used in automobile finishes, car polish and industrial paints.
