Ciba has successfully completed the pre-registration of its phase-in substances. This allows uninterrupted business at least until the end of November 2010. By "phase-in" we refer to the formal REACH definition, which includes any substance in the Ciba portfolio that is either manufactured by Ciba in the EEA, or directly imported by Ciba for sales or use in the EEA.
What is REACH?
REACH is the new European Community regulation governing the “Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of CHemicals”.
Please see our Customer letter, December 2008 for the latest information
It came into force on June 1st 2007 and replaces multiple European directives and legislation with a single regulation.
Its primary aim is to protect human health and the environment - an objective that Ciba strongly supports.
REACH will have major impact on the entire chemicals sector since manufacturers and importers of chemical substances made in or imported into the EU in annual volumes of 1 ton or more must register them with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) has a REACH Experts Network to coordinate harmonized answers to FAQs among Cefic national member associations to avoid duplication of answers. It also provides help to members with insufficient REACH expertise or capacity to develop their own support functions.
