A brief history: Following the merger between Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz, five industrial divisions of Ciba-Geigy Japan Ltd. became independent as Ciba Specialty Chemicals K.K. in November 1996
March 2001, Ciba Specialty Chemicals introduces simplified organization of five industry-focused segments designed to increase customer focus and drive profitable growth, with non-core support functions provided by centralized service units on a global basis.Ciba Specialty Chemicals divested Textile Effects business to Huntsman Corporation in July 2006.  Following the decision at the Annual General Meeting in March 2007, as of September 1, 2007, the Japanese entity changed its company name to Ciba Japan K.K.  September 2008, BASF, the world biggest chemical company, offered TOB to Ciba and in April 2009 the acquisition was officially closed.  Currently, Ciba is a part of BASF.
