In keeping with our commitment as a good corporate citizen, Ciba Specialty Chemicals in Singapore has been supporting community, youth and science educational programmes.

Promoting youth science education

• We sponsored the Math and Science Camp organized by the NUS High School of Math & Science. The partnership aimed to promote an environment of critical learning and creativity for students and contribute towards building a strong foundation for the future of Singapore's chemical industry.

We also participated as a corporate sponsor of the Chemistry Communications Challenge, organized by the Chemistry Department of National University of Singapore. The competition was geared to provide secondary students nationwide with an introduction to chemical sciences and its applications and encourage their interest in science. The winning teams were hosted to a visit to our Home and Personal Care laboratory as an extension of the corporate sponsorship.

• On an annual basis, we host a group of business students from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland where the students are given projects to work on with the various business units and services in the organization.

Protecting the environment

• We conducted a trial for the Marina Barrage national project with the involvement of students from Nanyang Junior College to give them an opportunity to gain valuable field experience and industry exposure. In 2005, our mentorship led to an award winning project for Nanyang Junior College in the Sembawang Shipyard's Green Wave Environmental Care Competition For Schools 2005.

• To support the global efforts to protect our environment, we took part in the annual International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) campaign organized by the Ocean Conservancy in 2005.
