The McIntosh site is the group company's largest manufacturing site in the world covering more than 1,500 acres in Alabama on the Gulf of Mexico. The plant opened in 1952 with only 32 employees manufacturing one product. Today, Ciba McIntosh has more than 700 people who manufacture hundreds of specialty chemicals in production units that operate around the clock throughout the year.
The McIntosh site produces products for all of Ciba's business segments serving customers around the world.
We make antioxidants that add life to lubricants, and protect and extend the life of plastics.
Light absorbers made at our Tinuvins Production Unit function like sunscreen to absorb damaging UV light before it reaches the polymer. These light absorbers can be used in plastic insulation and telecommunication wiring.
Light stabilizers made at our HALS Production Unit function very differently than suncreens and are used in auto finishes and photo paper.
Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) improve stability by stopping a polymer's degradation after it has absorbed UV rays. HALS are used in plastic containers and outdoor furniture.
Ciba® TINOPAL® optical brighteners made at our Stilbenics Production Unit are found in most laundry detergents to help make white clothes whiter.
