Responsibility in our Future

Responsible Care® is Working for Ciba
Ciba is committed to the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care® initiative and its Codes of Practice in Process Safety, Community Awareness and Emergency Response, Distribution, Pollution Prevention, Employee Health and Safety and Product Stewardship.

For the company, Responsible Care® is a core philosophy that has successfully integrated environmental, health and safety (EH&S) performance with Ciba's business goals. Responsible Care® engenders a unified focus across the company's divisions and fosters a teamwork approach to optimizing resources.

Product Stewardship is Our Guiding Principle
At Ciba, product stewardship is the key to our business success as well as our overriding commitment to Responsible Care®. Our products are the driving force of our business, and our success is measured by our ability to develop the most innovative products in a manner that is cost effective, eliminates waste and protects the environment. From cradle to grave, sound product stewardship ensures that the design, development, manufacture, transport, use and disposal of chemical products is done responsibly. It is the right way to do business for our customers, our neighbors, our employees and our stakeholders.

Safety is a Priority
Five of Ciba's’ six major sites in the US have actively pursued certification according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program, and earned elite OSHA Star status. The other site is making progress in earning this distinction. Of the five million work sites in the U.S., less than 1800 have attained OSHA VPP Star certification. Ciba ranked among the leaders of ACC member companies in employee safety and health.

Ciba's McIntosh, Ala., Suffolk, Va. and Newport, Del. sites are among the industrial facilities in this elite group. Ciba’s headquarters and laboratory facility in Tarrytown, N.Y., as well as the office facility in High Point, N.C. attained certification as well.

Environmental Champion
Ciba has been honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an Environmental Champion for efforts in support of waste minimization and pollution prevention. The award was given for Ciba's work with the EPA's New Jersey Sustainable Industry Project, which studied hazardous materials reuse. Ciba's leadership has sparked initiatives that balance business needs while utilizing pollution prevention measures to improve the environment
