Title: The challenges of GHS-implementation in the European Union
Description: The EU implementation (CLP) of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) was published on December 31st 2008 in the Official Journal and entered into force on January 20th 2009. Besides the obligation to reclassify all substances according to this new system for classification and labelling, it also requires adaptations on a technical level such as new label printing equipment. A new obligation in CLP is the duty to submit classification and labelling information on all substances placed on the European Community (EC) market to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) which will maintain a publically accessible database of classification and labelling (C&L) information.
