Function of Micronutrients

Function of Micronutrients
Function of Micronutrients

Photosynthesis, using light energy converts water and carbon dixoide into sugars. Sugars are the raw materials for biosynthesis of other plant products and, through respiration, provide the necessary energy.

Many interlinked metabolic pathways operate in plants and micronutrients are intimately involved with them all. As organometallic proteins, enzyme co-factors and catalysts for example.

When the supply of micronutrients is restricted the metabolic processes are affected leading ultimately to the development of deficiency symptoms.  Interestingly visual symptoms can often be explained at the biochemical level.
