Improving crop growth by increasing the amount of light used for photosynthesis

Plant photosynthesis strongly depends on the total amount of light that plants receive in photosynthetic active radiation with major contributions from blue and red light. Incorporated in the agricultural plastic, Ciba® SMARTLIGHT® RL 1000 converts part of the absorbed UV-light into red light, which boosts the growth of flowers like roses.

Soil Stabilization

Soil erosion and poor irrigation are common problems in agriculture. Top soils are eroded and water infiltration is poor. Ciba® SOILFIX® acts in two ways to stabilize soils: stabilization and flocculation.

• It binds to soil particles to provide structural stability and an open structure which allows water infiltration.
• If soil breakdown does occur it flocculates suspended clay and deposits this on the field.
