Today CD-R's and recordable DVD's are one of the main ways to store our data, information and music.
The key component in a recordable CD and DVD is the recording dye. The dye is responsible for forming the data marks during recording, for media performance and for the longevity of the information once stored. The dye is spin-coated onto the substrate, fills the grooves, and is then dried forming a thin, solid film. This dye layer is the active layer in a CDR and DVD+R as well as DVD-R disc.
Ciba® IRGAPHOR® functional dyes and their associated processes are leading solutions for the optical media industry. Our proprietary phthalocyanine and metal complex dye technology - combined with process engineering expertise - allows the manufacture of superb quality media capable of recording at the fastest speeds.
Dyes: Ciba's patented IRGAPHOR® dyes are the leading recording dyes for optical media: Offering simple high-yield processing, ease of handling, high light and environmental stability, they produce high quality media capable of recording at all speeds.
