Standards of Quality and Purity

Quality is a very important key to our brands of triclosan, Ciba® IRGASAN® DP 300 and IRGASAN® MP. All of our triclosan is manufactured under the tightest specifications and meets the stringent requirements of USP. USP quality triclosan is required for all Over-the-Counter (OTC) drug products  (21 CFR 330.14(i)), such as use in toothpaste applications and antibacterial hand wash and is the preference for cosmetic applications, although not obligatory. All consumer products made using Ciba triclosan stand up to random sampling and analysis evaluating its purity, further demonstrating our commitment to quality. This is not the case for generic triclosan made by other manufacturers. In fact, not all hand wash consistently contains USP grade triclosan!  As a result, Ciba must continually defend and refute negative claims created by the use of low quality triclosan made by others.

Public health has benefited from the efficacy and safety of triclosan and this should continue using only the highest quality triclosan in consumer products. To get the best quality for you and your family check with the manufacturer of your favorite antibacterial products and request that they be made with Ciba IRGASAN® DP 300

Why is USP so important?

USP sets forth the standards of identity, strength, quality and purity for all prescription and OTC drugs used in the United States. USP is a guide for assuring the public that the products they use are made from ingredients with the purity and performance they expect. USP also indirectly ensures that the manufacturers are using the best technology and standards for the ingredients that enter commerce, thereby protecting both human health and the environment. The USP monograph for triclosan was officially issued in USP23, ninth supplement (1998).
