The interior furnishings, textile materials and components of an automobile are subject to some of the harshest climates on earth, characterized by extremes of temperature, both hot and cold, and often by extremely low humidity.
Under these circumstances, long-term retention of the original aesthetics of the visible design elements, such as interior trims and seat covers, is essential. Polyester fibers (PES) and polypropylene fibers (PP) are mainly used for these applications. Polyamide fibers (PA) are also found, particularly in carpet pile fiber.
For components such as tires, filters, belts, hoses, airbags and sound insulation materials, among others, retention of satisfactory mechanical performance over the lifetime of the car is also extremely important. All three fiber types are found in these often low-visibility applications.
For all these applications, and for such specific demands as flame retardancy and antibacterial properties, Ciba offers high performance effect additives and colorants to meet the stringent demands of the automotive industry.
