 | Flame retardant additives are incorporated into polymers in order to enhance the polymers resistance to ignition.
In other words, it takes longer for a fire to start and subsequently develop. Because it takes longer for a fire to develop, there is more time to escape and it is possible to stop a fire before it reaches critical stages. |
Cibas' existing flame-retardant portfolio includes:
Ciba® FLAMESTAB® NOR™ 116 is a non-halogenated, melt-processable flame-retardant for polyolefins, especially PP fibers.
Ciba® MELAPUR® flame retardants are halogen and antimony free. MELAPUR® is primarily used in a variety of polymers for electrical and electronic applications for power distribution (e.g. switches, connectors, cables, terminal blocks) which can be used among others in large and small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment and various other industries. MELAPUR® is added either as a stand alone flame retardant, or as an effective synergist with other flame retardants to improve the overall performance of a flame retardant system.
