Ciba® MELAPUR®

The trend towards more stringent requirements for flame retardant plastics, with concerns about increased regulatory requirements for halogenated flame retardants, is forcing developments in the direction of non-halogenated alternatives.

All Ciba® MELAPUR® flame retardants are free of halogens, antimony or any other heavy metals. The MELAPUR® products allow finished parts to comply with the WEEE and various other regulations for recycling and disposal, saving significant cost by avoiding separate handling of individual components.

MELAPUR® is used primarily in a variety of polymers for electrical and electronic applications for power distribution (e.g. switches, connectors, cables, terminal blocks) which can be used in large and small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment and various other industries.

The table below demonstrates the considerable advantages of MELAPUR® compared to other major flame retardant systems. While MELAPUR® is often used as a stand alone flame retardant, it is also used regularly as an effective synergist with other flame retardants to improve the overall performance of the flame retardant system.
