Ciba® IRGASTAT® P is designed to give thermoplastic polymers permanent static dissipative properties so that they can be safely used in ESD-P areas.
5000 x magnification | Incorporated into the polymer, Ciba IRGASTAT® P develops a static dissipative fiber network through which electrostatic charge quickly dissipates. Products containing IRGASTAT® P are characterized by excellent charge decay behavior and values of 0.1 sec for 99% discharge are achievable |
Ciba® IRGASTAT® P is imbedded into the polymer matrix and is therefore non migratory. Contamination or release of corrosive by-products has not been found to be an issue in typical applications.
12% Irgastat P18 in PP inj. molded plaque | The antistatic effect is developed immediately after processing and under standard conditions performance remains unchanged over an extended period of the finished article. Since no film of moisture is needed to actually make the additive work, the antistatic effect is not dependent on humidity in order to work. |
 | Ciba® IRGASTAT® P is colorless and can therefore be applied in any combination with color. The favorable refractive index of the product allows its use in transparent applications without impairing transparency. |
 | Ciba® IRGASTAT® P is supplied as pellets and can therefore be added directly to your extrusion process. Loading levels vary from 9-18% and depend largely on substrate, processing conditions and final requirement. In most cases, pre-compounding is not necessary. |
Ciba® IRGASTAT® P has been successfully tested in most thermoplastic materials but performance strongly depends on processing conditions and on applications. If your application is an outdoor one, IRGASTAT® P should be used in combination with light stabilizers.
- PP, LDPE, HDPE - ABS - PA - PC - HIPS - PVC and others
 | Ciba® IRGASTAT® P is not exuding nor does it release volatile corrosive components. It is therefore well suited for applications that need to meet ESD protected or clean room requirements as well as for plastic articles used in the chemicals and mining industries. In some applications the additive can be added to a co-extruded thin layer to permanently provide the desired static dissipative effect. |

These are general recommendations but the right choice of product needs to be evaluated from case to case. All products meet the European standards for food contact applications when specific migration limits (SML) are met. FDA notification is under preparation.
