Enhanced Processing

Non and Low Warping Pigments

Enhanced Processing - Generic Effect

Polymers usually undergo several processing steps from manufacture to the final article. Polymer degradation occurs as a consequence of heat, shear, impurities and oxygen. The mechanical properties and the color of the polymer may change upon processing.

Enhanced productivity

Ciba® IRGANOX® antioxidants in combination with Ciba® IRGAFOS® High Performance Phosphites such as Ciba® IRGAFOS® 38, Ciba® IRGAFOS® P-EPQ, Ciba® IRGAFOS® 126 and Ciba® IRGAFOS® 12 offer improved productivity due to an improved stabilization during polymer processing.

Easy Dispersibility

Ciba Specialty Chemicals offers to the Plastics Industry solutions for increased productivity during plastic processing.

Ciba has developed innovative colorants for Masterbatch or Compound Production as well as for efficient plastic processing.

Ciba® CROMOPHTAL® P products are specifically designed for high demanding applications where  excellent dispersibility and the absence of oversized particles is important.

Key benefits of Ciba pigments for plastics are:

  • Higher Pigment Loading during Masterbatch Production and Compounding
  • Faster Processing
  • No specs or oversized particles
  • High color consistency and reduced re-processing requirements
  • Outstanding Filter Value during PP-Fiber production

We also offer a range of easy dispersible special preparations where selected pigments are pre-dispersed in a carrier resin.

  • Ciba® MICRANYL® NQ-F and Ciba® MICROLITH-KP for flexible and rigid PVC
  • Ciba® MICROLEN-MC for PO and selected Engineering Plastics

Processing consistency

Ciba® MICRANYL® NQ-F, Ciba® MICROLITH®-KP and Ciba® MICROLEN®-MC pigment preparations are the modern solutions for high productivity, unsurpassed color uniformity and reproducibility.
Benefits:
- Color Homogenity
- No color deviation during plastic processing (e.g. calendering effect)
- > 95 % right-first-time correlation of lab formulations in production

These concentrates consist of well-proven pigments in a finely dispersed, free-flowing and dust-free form. Thanks to the easy and trouble-free processing with Ciba pigment preparations, time is saved; productivity, yield and quality are increased.

Dimensional Stability

The degree of crystallinity and the speed of crystallisation is determining the final properties of an plastic article. Organic pigments are known to influence these parameters during the cooling phase of plastic processing, particularly in HDPE injection moulding.

This can result in :

  • reduced mechanical stability
  • impact on dimensional stability
    • warping
    • shrinkage

Typical applications where this effect becomes important are containers, crates and  caps & closures.

Ciba Specialty Chemicals has developed based on innovative technology, a series of organic products which have no or only very little influence on the dimensional and mechanical stability during HDPE processing.
New additions include:
