Fujitsu General** is a leading supplier of air conditioning systems. Fujitsu General had a vision to be the first company in the market to launch an air conditioner that is equipped with an “automated filter cleaning mechanism”. Such a system would allow for increased convenience, enhanced hygienic properties and higher energy efficiency as accumulated dust is automatically removed.

Fujitu’s engineers developed a system where the plastic filters are scraped against a brush every 200 hours which removes any dust accumulated on the filters. Great idea but there was one drawback – electrostatic charge build-up caused by moving plastic parts prevented the system from operating properly.

Ciba, the world’s leading plastic additives supplier, recommended the use of Ciba® IRGASTAT® P, a permanent antistatic additive specifically designed for plastic materials. Shinsei Takashima, an engineer of Fujitsu General, carried out a series of tests. The results fully met Fujitu’s expectations. As Shinsei Takashima commented, “We were very impressed by the effects, so we decided to go ahead immediately.”  

Launched in March 2003, “nocria” – the name of the air conditioner model - has been a best-seller in Japan and Fujitsu has decided to launch the product also overseas.
