Polypropylene tapes are used in a variety of different end applications such as carpet backing, woven 'big bags', sacks, and strapping.

Thermal and Processing Stability

Polypropylene tape applications require good melt flow and color control. Water carry-over properties of the tape can greatly affect production efficiency, and minimizing this effect is an important feature of any stabilization blend.

Ciba® IRGANOX® B 311 and Ciba® IRGANOX® B 215 are state-of-the-art stabilizer systems for PP tapes, providing good melt flow control and color maintenance at low water carry-over.

Light Stability

Just as heat and shear can degrade polypropylene, so too can light. Ultraviolet light, the same type that causes skin to sunburn, can initiate chemical reactions in polypropylene, resulting in polymer chain scission and loss of chemical and physical properties. Ciba® TINUVIN® and Ciba® CHIMASSORB® light stabilizers can improve the light stability of polypropylene tapes. These are ultraviolet light absorbers (UVAs) and hindered amine/amide light stabilizers (HALS). Often UVAs and HALS are used together to provide a higher level of polymer stability.

To incorporate additives efficiently, we offer Customer Specific Blends in various product forms. For more information, please contact us
