Polyvinylchloride Effects - Stabilization

The PVC industry is on the constant look-out for products to provide good thermal stability of PVC compounds. PVC resins containing Ciba® IRGANOX® 245 DW or Ciba® IRGASTAB® PVC 11, added during the polymerization process, yield PVC compounds with lower initial color compared to PVC stabilized with conventional systems such as BHT or BPA. Ciba additives help to retard significantly the dehydrochlorination of PVC.

Stabilization of flexible PVC compounds

For thermally very demanding applications, like flexible PVC for wire & cable or automotive interior, plasticizers need to be stabilized with antioxidants. The main purpose of the antioxidant is to protect the plasticizer in the PVC formulation against thermal oxidation during the processing, as well as during the manufacturing and use of the finished article. Ciba® IRGASTAB® PVC 11 is particularly suitable for the stabilization of plasticizers and corresponding compounds. Ciba® IRGASTAB® PVC 11 confers protection against thermal oxidation of plasticizers and impart good retention of physical properties and reduction of discoloration to flexible PVC compounds.

The liquid form of Ciba® IRGASTAB® PVC 11 contributes to an easy and accurate incorporation of the additive into the plasticizer. details...
