Within the Ciba's research community, a small interdisciplinary team, Group Research, is involved in the design and development of innovative products and processes, ranging from structurally simple to complex molecules, from bio-based functional chromophores to high performance intermediates, from achiral to enantiopure compounds.
Group Research is focusing on a well-balanced toolbox including bio-catalysis, advanced chemical catalysis and innovative synthesis design giving access to new chemical entities in an economical and environmental attractive way. To speed up technology development in these areas in a competitive fashion, fast experimentation techniques and automatisation are applied.
The integrated use of this platform, covering all segments, offers to the Ciba businesses
- Environmentally friendly and sustainable manufacturing (“soft chemistry”)
- Use of new and/or renewable feedstock (“green chemistry”)
- Source of new products and ingredients, including “natural ingredients”
- Access to products not obtainable via traditional routes.
