Ciba Specialty Chemicals introduces Ciba® IRGACLEAR® XT 386, its high-efficiency, next generation clarifier for polypropylene. Extremely effective at low concentrations, it enables excellent see-through clarity of polypropylene products. IRGACLEAR XT 386 has been derived from a new chemistry platform for clarifiers, which features high thermal stability and high chemical integrity. It therefore improves the organoleptic properties of clarified polypropylene, when compared to conventional clarifier technologies.

The high stability and efficacy of IRGACLEAR XT 386 offers a low risk for plate-out and blooming. Plate-out and blooming are often experienced in the industry during processing and end-use of clarified polypropylene.

In addition, IRGACLEAR XT 386 tolerates higher compounding and processing temperatures, compared with many other clarifiers, and maintains its clarifying power even when subjected to multiple processing cycles. This is often the case in polypropylene processing when it comes to the use of regrind or recycling. The high stability of IRGACLEAR XT 386 allows for output improvements and higher quality polypropylene products.

IRGACLEAR XT 386 is ideally suited for polypropylene random copolymer for

  • Thin Wall Injection Molding of transparent food containers, e.g. yoghurt cups
  • Injection Molding of houseware articles such as food storage containers
  • Extrusion and Injection Stretch Blow Molding of bottles

“IRGACLEAR XT 386 has been designed to tackle issues currently experienced with clarified polypropylene such as plate-out formation, blooming and odor formation. It is the next generation clarifier from Ciba Specialty Chemicals, offering improvements in existing applications and expanding the use of clarified polypropylene to new applications,” says Philipp Walter, Global Marketing Head, Nucleators & Clarifiers, Ciba Specialty Chemicals.
