Ciba is pursuing a strategy of managing its extensive portfolio with three separate business models to accommodate its broad and interconnected customer base: specialty products, semi-specialties and the emerging area of comprehensive customer services.

Based on the Company strategy and the simplified structure introduced by Ciba, each segment has developed a tailored strategy, reflecting its unique position in its customers’ markets while remaining responsible for increasing its service offerings, providing totally integrated customer solutions and expanding its use of e‑commerce through mybusiness@ciba and direct e‑business links with global customers.

Plastic Additives (Markets: Plastics, Lubricants, Personal Care, Home & Fabric Care)

The goal of the Plastic Additives business  is to leverage its strong position in the polymer additives market to provide a wide range of specialty effects. Innovation, services and strategic partnerships will provide product differentiation and new technology platforms, while operational excellence and lowest-cost manufacturing will help drive growth. Lubricant Additives continues to meet higher engine performance needs with environmentally friendly solutions. Home & Personal Care’s goal is to extend the breakthrough achieved with its range of UV absorbers for sunscreens and laundry detergents to other specialties by leveraging its technological strengths in existing relationships with global home and personal care industry customers.

Coating Effects - Colored fridges

Coating Effects (Markets: Paints, Imaging & Inks, Electronics, Plastics)

Its target is to build on its strong position as a supplier of high-performance pigments, photoinitiators, UV absorbers and colorants in its various coatings markets through a significant commitment to research and development. Its aim is to increase the percentage of new products it offers to customers across all of the markets it serves.

Water and Paper Treatment (Markets: Water Management, Mining and Oil, Agriculture, Papermaking)

The Water business strategy is based on global products providing local solutions to drive global expansion, particularly in rapidly developing markets and regions. By focussing on clearly defined market segmentation, new and improved products and solutions are delivered through Ciba’s Innovation process.

The Paper business focuses on market segments and specific customers’ needs based on Ciba’s product leadership and outstanding process capability.
